Some of our recent properties have been located near areas of BLM land, so we’ve been advertising this fact in our listings. But, we noticed we have begun receiving a few questions about this. What is BLM land? Is it good or bad to be near it? Can I enjoy this land or is it private? Due to all of the questions we’ve been receiving, we decided to write this blog post to explain what exactly BLM land is and why it’s a great thing to be near.

What is the BLM?
BLM stands for The Bureau of Land Management, and they are a Federal agency here in the United States. According to their website, their mission is “to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.” They are in control of over 245 million acres of land, mostly located in the western states.
Is this land open to the public?
Yes, most of this land can be enjoyed by the regular public. Common activities are camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, boating, rafting, winter sports, and almost anything else you can think of doing on large areas of natural land.
Why is it good to own land near BLM land?
Most of our customers are looking for a retreat to get away from the big cities and lights, so buying land near BLM land is a perfect situation. When you buy a couple acres to get away from it all, it’s comforting knowing that you are near federally protected land that is guaranteed not to be developed into a shopping mall anytime soon.
